About Ganache Bakery

He was always peeking over her shoulders, watching with intent as she creamed the butter and sugar by hand. He wanted to learn; to play with the flour and scoop pineapples into tarts but every time he tried she would swat his hands away. In the end, they would always sit together at the small table in the kitchen and eat her baked treats together.

Every time she left for work, Jamal snuck into the kitchen to mimic her every move -whipping the butter and sugar until his hands ached and trying his hand at cookies in the neighbors' easy bake oven.

Before long, he was making cookies for friends at school but no matter how many he made he would always be sold out by lunch! He knew he wanted to be an entrepreneur, to pursue a career in culinary arts but leaving his tight-knit community and family in St Croix was not going to be easy.

Jamal spent many hours watching Emeril imagining himself on TV creating tiers of cake for an intrigued audience. Could he, the small island boy, make it to the big screen he wondered. After many years of chasing his pastry dreams, studying in FL, and working under the tutelage of bakers and chefs at The Breakers and Bice, Jamal opened Ganache Bakery with his culinary school friend Joan. Together they created a buzz around the Ganache name that landed him a spot on the Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship.

The dream that he had as a little boy was finally staring him in the face. In the whirlwind of grueling creative challenges, people met a young man with a Cruzan lilt, warm personality, and simple views on life. While he didn’t take home the trophy, Jamal became known as the neighborhood cake superhero of West Palm Beach, welcoming visitors into his chocolate-scented shop with a hello and a fist bump.

Together with his wife Nish, they transformed the cafe into a boutique cake shop specializing in custom-designed cakes and a taste of the islands through freshly shucked coconuts, key lime tarts, and their infamous rum cakes.
